Stockholm and Helsinki city break

5 days / 4 nights
Travel dates: 28.5.-1.6., 18.-22.6., 23.-27.7., 20.-24.8.2020.

Located on the Gulf Coast, the city of the legendary design and gourmet scene, Helsinki is a great destination for relaxed enjoyment. A blend of modern and secession architecture, spacious alleys reminiscent of Parisian Champs Elysees and unusual charm will win you over at first glance.

When you add Stockholm, Venice of the North, a city where colorful facades intertwine with the idyllic archipelago, a modern lifestyle with a relaxed atmosphere, a vibrant old town with contemporary architecture, you get the perfect trip to two remarkable capitals in one dynamic city break.

Day 1: ZAGREB - HELSINKI
Meeting of passengers at Franjo Tudjman Airport at the information counter two hours before the departure of the aircraft, distribution of travel documents and check-in for flight to Helsinki on OU4486 at 8:10 am. Estimated landing time at 11:45 (local time). Upon landing, board the bus and take a panoramic tour of Finland's capital and largest city, located in the south of the country. Founded only in 1550, Helsinki is one of the youngest capitals in Europe, and with its unusual charm and blend of modern and secessionist architecture, it wins the first. During the tour, we will see the famed monument to Jean Sibelius housed in the park of the same name, by Eil Hiltunen, made of 600 hollow steel tubes representing the organ; the famous Temppeliaukion rock church, whose outer walls are made of natural rock; Finlandia Convention and Concert Hall of Famous Architect Alvar Aalto, National Museum and Parliament Building, magnificent Orthodox Church of the Assumption built of red brick, Senate Square dominated by Lutheran Cathedral, etc. Going to a hotel and accommodation. Free evening for your own programs. We suggest a visit to the heart of the city, the port with the main Kauppatori market, where you can buy traditional Finnish souvenirs, as well as conveniently try a variety of typical Finnish dishes such as fresh salmon steak or room meat. Return to hotel. Overnight stay.

Day 2: HELSINKI-BROD
Breakfast. We suggest a half-day excursion to Suomenlinna (surcharge), a settled naval fortress that spans six islands connected by bridges in the Baltic Sea, a 15-minute ferry ride from Helsinki. It was built by the Swedes in the mid-18th century for the purpose of defense against the Russian Empire, and its name in Finnish means "Finnish fortress / castle". Since 1991, it has been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a unique example of military architecture of the time, and is at the same time the largest naval fortress in the world. Suomenlinna today has about 900 inhabitants and about 300 people employed there, which indicates that this place is not only a museum but also a vibrant community. A stroll through Suomenlinna and the connected islands, along narrow paths, with beautiful exteriors that smell of antiquity, will take you to another, more peaceful time. The islands are also a real art colony, from the Nordic Arts Center, to several buildings that have been converted into art studios, to many art schools for children over the summer. For travelers who want to stay in Helsinki, a day off for their own programs. We suggest visiting the Ateneum Museum, home to works of Finnish sculpture and painting from the late 19th century, known as the "golden age" of Finnish art, or explore the Kiasmu Museum, a symbol of the city's modernization that contains an eclectic collection of Finnish modern art. Stop by Design District, a neighborhood that since 2005 has brought together all the creative businesses in the neighborhood and today contains 25 streets with handmade jewelry stores, antique and furniture stores, fashion stores, museums such as the Design Museum and the Museum of Finnish Architecture and numerous art galleries . In the afternoon, board the boat for Stockholm, accommodation in cabins. Night sailing.

Day 3: STOCKHOLM
Breakfast on board. Arrival in Stockholm in the morning. After disembarking, we take a panoramic and pedestrian tour of the city where we will pass the most famous sights: the 106-meter-high city hall, the home of the banquet hall where most of the Nobel Prizes are awarded - the Riksdagshuset Parliament building - the Royal Opera House - Kungsträdgården, which in Sweden means the King's Garden - Djurgården Island, the so-called Museum Island, a green oasis not far from the city center that houses many museums: the Vasa Museum with a royal ship, the pride of the 17th-century Swedish Navy, the Skansa open-air museum, the ABBA Group Museum and the Royal Palace. Accommodation in a hotel. Departure with a public transport commuter to the city where we will continue our sightseeing tour of the old part of the city, Gamla Stan, the old town on the island, Stockholm's oldest district and one of the best preserved medieval neighborhoods in Europe. Gamla Stan is like a bustling open-air museum with many landmarks, restaurants, cafes and bars. The neighborhood is home to many of the city's attractions, such as Stortorget Squarehouses the Alfred Nobel Museum, a 13th-century medieval cathedral where the royal wedding took place in 2010, and the Royal Palace, the official residence of the royal family, which, with over 600 rooms, is one of the largest palaces in Europe. Free time for personal programs. Overnight stay.

Day 4: STOCKHOLM
Breakfast. A day off for personal programs, visiting museums, enjoying Djurgarden and its large amusement park. We recommend a half-day trip to Mariefred, a picturesque place near Stockholm on Lake Malaren, where the famous Gripsholms Castle is located, picturesque enough to be very often on Swedish postcards but also in other photographs: the world-renowned ABBA on the cover of her Waterloo album recorded that castle (surcharge for a ticket to the castle on site). Overnight stay.

Day 5: STOCKHOLM-ZAGREB
Breakfast. After breakfast check-out and luggage storage in the designated area. For the last day, we recommend a half-day boat trip through the extremely indented and picturesque Stockholm archipelago, during which you will get acquainted with its unique, stunning scenery and experience the city from a different perspective. Free day for your own activities, visits to museums, shopping, etc. Return to hotel and transfer in the afternoon to the airport. Check in on the flight to Zagreb on line OU485 at 18:10.
